Janelle Burger for Bold Baby

Regular price $2,500
Tested by Bureau Veritas to AS/NZS 2172:2013
Designed with purpose

The artwork on this cot was made in Paris.

This limited-edition Janelle Burger Art Series Cot brings an exclusive blend of contemporary design and deep cultural storytelling into your nursery.

Janelle Burger has lived in France for years. That distance from Australia, from Country, and from the landscape she grew up in runs quietly through everything she makes. This illustration draws from connection: to nature, to home, and to a feeling she carries with her.

The accompanying panels are finished in the rust and ochre tones of the Australian landscape, using colours that carry the same feeling as the work itself.

"I'd like families to know that this art was made with care and honesty," Janelle says. "I hope it brings warmth, creativity, and a sense of joy and calmness into their space."

More than just a piece of designer nursery furniture, this cot serves as a beautiful, soulful anchor for your baby's room.

Introducing

Janelle Burger

Noongar artist. Fremantle born. Paris based.

Janelle Burger grew up in Fremantle, Western Australia. She has lived in Paris for fifteen years. Her work moves between those two worlds, the country she comes from and the city she calls home, and the space between them is where most of her art lives.

Janelle Burger painting in her Paris studio

Her studio in Paris is where the two halves of her life come together. The colours of Noongar country, earth, sky, the south-west coast, filtered through a city famous for its light. She works across illustration, murals and print, with clients including Apple, Instyle, Frankie magazine and Canva.

The work is immediately recognisable. Bold, layered, alive.

"Being away from Australia has made me hold onto my culture even more strongly. My work often reflects identity, connection, memory, and belonging, even when it isn't obvious at first glance."

Janelle works surrounded by the things that interest her. Found objects, small figures, pigments bought in Italy that turned out to carry colours she recognised from home. Curiosity is where the work begins.

"A baby's environment is so important. I liked the idea that my artwork could become part of someone's early memories and daily life."

Frequently asked questions

What is the Bold Baby Art Series?

The Art Series is an ongoing collaboration between Bold Baby and Australian and international artists. Each edition is a fully functional Bold Baby Cot with original artwork built into the panels — considered from the beginning as part of the object itself, not applied after the fact.

Who is Janelle Burger?

Janelle Burger is a Noongar woman and artist born and raised in Fremantle, Western Australia, now based in Paris. Her work explores identity, connection, memory and belonging, themes drawn from her relationship to Country and her experience of living between cultures. She is the first artist in the Bold Baby Art Series.

Is this a limited edition?

Yes. Each Bold Baby Art Series cot is produced in a very limited run.

Will there be more Art Series cots?

Yes. The Bold Baby Art Series is an ongoing programme of collaborations with Australian and international artists. Each edition is unique to the artist, a different voice, a different work, a different world brought into a child's room.

Can I reserve one now and pay later?

Yes. Flexible payment options are available at checkout.

Is the Bold Baby Cot safety tested?

Yes. Tested by Bureau Veritas to AS/NZS 2172:2013, the Australian and New Zealand safety standard for household cots. Every paint and printed panel is separately tested for the eight regulated toxic elements under AS/NZS ISO 8124.3.

We publish every laboratory, report number and date on our Safety & Testing page.

How does the Bold Baby Cot become a toddler bed?

Remove one side rail and lower the legs to bring the bed closer to the ground – a safe, simple transition that encourages independence as your child grows.
